Capturing to Mac

We are new to this field but have a supportive unit locally.

We aim to lease a microscope as an add on to a current project while exploring if we can use it long term.

As such we are trying to limit expense (UK NHS!)

We are looking at a firewire A to D capture device but the only laptops we have access to which have 6 pin fire wire are Macbooks (Dual Core Intel). Canopus ADVC55 Ultra Portable Converter seems to fit the bill unless anyone has a better suggestion.

So my questions are:
Is anyone else capturing to Mac and then transferring the .avi files to PC for analysis?

Which software do you use for capture (is is possible to get iMovie to save the files as .avi?)

Thanks

Richard

Forum: Questions

When practicing SDF measurements our research group had some trouble with keeping the device steady. We thought it would be a help if there was some holder that can fixate the device, that is attached to the wall for example, so you only have to put it on the right spot of the tissue.
Does something like that exist for this device?
Retinal microcirculation

We would love to be able to use an instrument such as the Microscan to measure microcirculation in the retina at the back of the eye. This would be a major breakthrough for a number of retinal diseases. It appears that if we had the right lens system this should be possible. Please can you advise.

Forum: Installation

Optical calibration

Hi Peter or Antonio!

If I do calibration with the cylindrical calibration tool (1000 lpi), is there a 5X magnification in the bottom of the tool since the microscan optic head is inserted into the tool without a 5X lens?

If there isn't a 5X magnification, but it is done without, then the calibration will be fraud as the actual videomicroscopy is done with a 5X lens, won't it?

The question: Do I need to buy a stage micrometer (or other tool) to obtain the actual optical calibration with the 5X lens?

Marko

Forum: Questions

Averaged Image and Single Frame Export

Hello,

Is it possible to export the image generated in the analysis window frame after stabilizing the image and defining and applying the frame averaging function? I would also like to export individual frames. These would be very helpful in putting together PowerPoint presentations for seminars in which you will need to educate the audience as to what AVA does and how the analysis is generated.

Many thanks and Happy Holidays,

Danny

Danny R.
Opportunity to save steady avi file and logfile and open the same files with the old vessel marking and velocity judgement on another computer?

Hi

I have also one more suggestion to changes in the AVA 3.0 software. I have done my analysis in AVA 3.0 software in one computer, but when I tried to copy it to an external hard drive and then copy it to another computer it was not possible to open the logfile in this new computer.

This could be an important option to have, since sometimes you have to save your data on an external hard drive and then if you want to open it one more time in the future to see if have done something wrong or wanted to watch how you did your vessel marking on that particular video.

It could also be very good to have this option to be able to share the videos and logfiles with other people, if you want to compare the analysis between two. It could be more efficient if two people can do the analysis of the same videos at the same time and then compare if their analysis where similar according to vessel marking and velocity judgement. You also got the opportunity to share videos and the analysis with people who lives on a long distance from you.

I commented some about this problem in the forum. The link is:
http://www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/post/microvisionmedical/vpost?id=2933102

Best regards,

Anders

Forum: Report a bug

More information in the "De Backer Density" section in the "Microcirculatory report"?

Hi

I have another suggestion to changes in the Microcirculatory report, where it would be very helpful if the program also could sum up and differentiate how many of the grid crossings are made by the large vessels and how many of the grid crossings are made of the small vessels, dependent on how you have set the program to differentiate between large and small vessels. Most people use 20 micrometer, but some uses 25 micrometer, so it should be possible to change this in the main settings. Or maybe it should also be possible to differentiate between small, intermediate and large vessels.

Best regards,

Anders

Forum: Report a bug

A bug in the "Microcirculatory report" if you "make a selection"

Hi

When I am in the analysis part of the AVA 3.0 software, there appears to be a problem with the De Backer parameters in the "Report generator" if you choose to make a selection of one specific part of the whole image, where you can sum up your analysis in numbers from only one region of the whole image.

This option is very good to have if there is saliva in one part of the image.

But the De Backer parameters in the "Microcirculatory Report" is not changing when you choose only to sum up the analysis on only one specific part of the whole image. It is the same as for the whole image and this will be wrong if you have chosen just to do the analysis on just the region you have chosen. Couldn't it be possible to make the program measure the "Total grid length" of the grids, which will be in the region you have selected and then also count only the grid crossings in the region you have chosen?

Could it also be possible to try to make it possible to be able to draw the region of interest by hand, and not make the square you have to make if you want to make a selection from the region in the image you are interested to do your analysis on, because there is sometimes that saliva would be in many directions of the whole image?

Is it possible to fix this bug in the software?

Best regards,

Anders
Forum: Report a bug

What do you do if have set a wrong spatial calibration and done your analysis on wrong settings?

Hi

What do you do if you have recognized that you have the wrong spatial calibration, but have done the analysis of some videoes?

I have tested this setting in the AVA 3.0 software. I had done all my analysis, writing down what the horizontal and vertical pitches below the "vessel detection parameters" in the Microcirculatory report" was. Then I saved this analysis in a logfile. After I restarted the AVA 3.0 software with a new spatial calibration. Then I changed the horizontal and vertical pitch and saved this new settings. Then I checked that the settings where saved with going to the main settings menu. After I started the analysis and opened the saved logfile with the other calibration settings, I went to "Microcirculatory report" and nothing had changed with the horizontal or vertical pitch. It was just the same. It seems like if you save a logfile, then you save the calibration settings to this logfile and you cannot change this after you have saved your logfile. So I have concluded that there is no option to change these pitches after you have done your analysis and saved your analysis in a logfile.

So, my question is; Do you need to do the analysis all over again with the new calibration or is there a place you can change this, since this will interfere with differences in vessel diameter?

I think it should be an option to be able to change the horizontal and vertical pitch if you have found out that your spatial calibration was wrong after you have done all your analysis and saved your logfiles, since the vessel marking and velocity judgement are already done, but there is only lacking an option to changes these pitches. There should be an option where you can actively choose to change these pitches for all your logfiles, some specific logfiles and not to change for specific logfiles if you choose to do so.

It this something which could be fixed?

Best regards,

Anders

Forum: Report a bug

Suggestions to improvement of the AVA 3.0 software

Hello

The AVA 3.0 software is a very good program to do analysis of microcirculation videoes, but there is some things I want to comment on.

I have some suggestions for making the program more convenient and faster for the user.

Could it be possible to make a new solution in the "analysis" part of the program where you could use "the right button" on the mouse to erase vessel, at the same time as you are in the mode of "draw the vessels by hand", since "the left button" of the mouse is used to draw. You could have in this new configuration the same option with "the shift button" on the keyboard, but now with pushing "the right button" on the mouse. You could maybe make an opportunity to have the same option as with the right button on the mouse, which says that "erase vessel" is if you push on the "left button" at the same time as you push the letter "q" or some other button on the left part of the keyboard. It could be good to have two options. This could also be an option for every kind of marking of vessel, manual and automatic. I think this will save many people a lot of time when they do their analysis of many videos.

Could it also be possible to do a whole copy of the vessel marking you have done on the analysis of one video to another analysis? I was thinking if you where recording from the same area and then it could be faster to do the analysis if you had the same vessels in view. But maybe in this option it could be possible to move all the vessel markings in the new video or in the same video if you where not on the exact same coordinates of the organ you were videorecording on?

It could also be very convenient if you could manually mark vessels while playing the video. I have some problems with the "Show averaged frames", when I try to push play and then stop and afterwards mark vessels with "show averaged frames".

Do the community have any other suggestion to improvement of the AVA 3.0 software?

With my best regards,

Anders

Forum: Report a bug
